A report by the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) and the online program management company the Learning House, Recruiting, Orienting, and Supporting Online Adjunct Faculty: A Survey of Practices, describes the results of a survey of 202 administrators involved in online education. The study found a general lack of faculty development for effective online teaching methods and a lack ofinstitutional policies for teaching. The study also found that online colleges are increasingly dependent on adjunct faculty members to teach online. The report is of special interest to writing teachers as more and more college writing courses move to hybrid and fully online environments. The report can be found at http://www.learninghouse.com/adjunct2015-report/
Many of the concerns raised in the report are discussed in the Conference on College Composition and Communication’s Position Statement of Principles and Example Effective Practices for Online Writing Instruction at https://cccc.ncte.org/cccc/resources/positions/owiprinciples
