Last month, U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, visited three Nebraska schools and one Nebraska private university as part of her “Rethink Schools” tour. DeVos visited the Nelson Mandela private school in Omaha, where she learned about the school’s funding through a local foundation. In the state’s capitol city, Lincoln, DeVos visited Lincoln Public Schools’ ‘Zoo School’ where she was able to see a specialized program offered to local high school students through a partnership with the local Children’s Zoo. DeVos also visited Lincoln’s St. Mary’s Catholic School. At her visit to Midland University’s campus, DeVos sat in on one of the University’s “Code Academy” coding classes. During her visit to the state, DeVos shared her interest in providing more access to technology in the classroom in order to prepare students for a globally competitive world.
