Grant Wiggins is given a daunting, yet unusual proposition. A disgruntled African American school teacher stuck in the confines of a plantation school house in a racist Louisiana community, Grant does not want to do any more work than he has to, and certainly does not have the energy to help out Jefferson, a young boy caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
