Justyce McAllister is a Black high school senior who has everything going for him. He attends Braselton Preparatory Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, and has a high chance of being accepted into Yale University in the fall. He’s helping his drunk ex-girlfriend Melo get into a car one night when a police officer arrives and places him in handcuffs, not allowing him to explain the situation. This officer’s suspicion and attitude towards Justyce is a catalyst for how he begins to see the world he is about to enter as an adult, and he starts writing diary entries to Martin Luther King Jr. to help him process his feelings and interactions with others.
