Mark Brian only has two years to live, so the Bishop sends Mark to a remote village where the Kwakiutl Indians live. When Mark arrives at the village, he does not know that his life is short. All he knows is that he must learn to live with these people who do not trust him. Mark begins to have a few friends including Jim (who helps him with his duties), Marta, and Keetah.
