Journey to Topaz is the story of the Sakanes, a family uprooted during World War II’s Japanese-American evacuation from the West coast to American concentration camps. Yuki, eleven, and Ken, fourteen, American citizens by birth, are forced to leave their home with their Issei mother to join other Japanese families in overcrowded, dirty quarters.
