Sixteen-year-old Chelsea Olinger is the book’s protagonist. The novel opens with her and her mother traveling to their new home where they will meet up with Chelsea’s father, who is a kennel owner. She is in a period of believing her mother knows nothing and is very defensive in her dialogue.
