A perfect example of a therapeutic and inspirational young adult novel is Barry Lyga’s The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl. A 15-year-old “geek” is tormented by bullies. He feels isolated both at school and at home and turns to graphic novels, including one that he himself writes late at night, to release his frustrations and seek a healthy outlet for his brilliant creativity.
