The Day They Came to Arrest the Book

The novel opens with the return of students to George Mason High School. Three friends, Barney, Luke, and Kate playfully tease each other. They also make fun of Mr. Moore, the principal, who they think a moron. Barney is then told by Kate that Mrs. Salters, a librarian, has left the school due personal differences with Mr. Moore. Deirdre Fitzgerald, the new school librarian, is also told about Mrs. Salters from Nora Baines, a fellow teacher. Nora warns Deirdre that censorship is going on in the school and tells her to be strong.
