Tom Wingfield introduces himself as the narrator of this “memory play.” It’s the late 1930s in a dingy St. Louis apartment where Tom and his sister Laura, both in their early 20s, live with their middle-aged mother, Amanda. Their father left the family some years earlier, and all around the Wingfields is the sense of life having passed them by.
