“Who’s they? The man at the office? “Mr. Karpinski gave a sardonic laugh. It goes a lot deeper than that, Nick. It’s a whole network.” it’s “the communists” (Naylor P28), this is a typical conversation that nick Karpinski had with his father Jacob in the novel the keeper. The conversation that only took Nick’s father into his father’s mind this conversation confused and frightened Nick. They remind nick of his father’s illness. There were no communists after Jacob Karpinski. It was all in his head. Yet nick must stand by and watch his father slip deeper into insanity.
