Things Left Unsaid (2005) by Stephanie Hemphill is a novel in poems distinguished by the author’s unique poetic voice and distinct ability to capture the emotions of youth. Carton (2005, May 1, p. 1580) described Things Left Unsaid as a “fine first novel” in a Booklist review and in 2006 Things Left Unsaid was the recipient of the Myra Cohn Livingston Award for Poetry. Additionally, Horn Book Guide awarded Things Left Unsaid with a superior rating, describing the novel as accessible with skillfully developed themes (Horn Book, 2005, paragraph 6).
