Family Literacy Night- A Spotlight on Reading

February 20, 2025 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Thomas Family Literacy Night for grades K-2 will utilize collaborative and relational activities to link learning. The activities and books selected will support readiness standards for reading. The activities are grade-specific with skills that focus on learning by addressing children’s varying learning styles. A “Spotlight on Reading” will be the theme for Thomas Family Literacy Night. This thematic approach will help families get excited about the importance of reading and demonstrate the key role that families play in supporting their children’s education.
Developing and deepening reading skills will be emphasized during group rotation activities. During this time, families participate in fostering their children’s reading comprehension skills. Reading skills will be specific to each grade level. Compare and contrast, descriptive language, and thinking critically to solve problems are some of the skills that will be nurtured.
