For the Love of Reading
February 14, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 pm
Free
For the third consecutive year, Clover Street School hosted The National African American Read–In (AARI). Our theme this year was, “For the Love of Reading”. Our event was held on February 14th. As an integral part of this event, I invite guest readers from within our school district as well as other professional men of color from within the community. Specifically, the guest readers who are invited are all African American men who are also a part of the Divine 9, (Historically Black Greek Fraternities). Guests are served a full hot breakfast for time to fellowship. The men then are given a plethora of books to choose from to read to the students. It was intentionally designed to allow the guests to select the books they want to read to our students. Guest readers are then escorted by our students to their assigned classroom to read and discuss the selected book with the students. From reading these books, all of which are about people of African ancestry, guest readers engage in a rich discussion with the students to further educate and empower our students to embrace literacy and use it as a tool for their success in life. The purpose for this annual event is to provide an opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate diversity, educate, and expose our students to the literary tapestry that reflects the experiences, struggles, and triumphs of the African American community.
