North Central Michigan College African American Read-In

February 29, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

At the 2024 NCMC African American Read-in a total of forty students participated from three classes: Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Philosophy, and the History of U.S. Social Justice Movements. In small groups, students debated the merits and weaknesses of different protest strategies and civil rights philosophies of the American Civil Rights Movement. In preparing for the discussion, students read excerpts from selected speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X and also watched short video clips of the speeches being delivered in the early 1960s.
