Conference on English Leadership
A collaborative, dynamic, discussion-based forum for literacy leaders.
Each event in the “On Leadership” series will be one-and-a-half hours long. We will begin with a “fireside chat” conversation with a featured guest for the first half-hour, then go into breakout rooms (sometimes based on a specific subtopic and other times based on role or grade level) where designated CEL members will help facilitate a discussion around the specific topic.
The first event in this series will be on Wednesday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m. CT / 7:30 p.m. ET and will feature NCTE Executive Director Emily Kirkpatrick , as she discusses leadership as a whole. From there, CEL will host these events monthly following the schedule below.
- January 19 – On Leadership featuring Emily Kirkpatrick, NCTE Executive Director (open to all NCTE members. NCTE sign-up here.)
- *February 16 – On Leading Dual Enrollment featuring Sarah Johnson, Chair of English at Madison College and Chair of the Two-Year College English Association (TYCA)
-
- We understand that this mostly applies to our secondary and college members, but we feel this is a much-needed support for our members.
- March 16 – On Leading BIG Changes and Shifts featuring Dr. John Burkey, Executive Director of LUDA (Large Unit District Association) and former Superintendent
- April 13 – On Leading for Institutional Equity featuring Dr. Valerie Kinloch, NCTE President and Dean of Education of the University of Pittsburgh School of Education
- May 11 – On Leading Social Justice Work featuring Val Brown, Principal Academic Officer at stand.org (that’s right, she’s back!)
*This will be the first-ever “bring a colleague” (a non-CEL member) with you. We know you might work with people who would really benefit from attending an event focused on this topic, so bring them along (and then encourage them to join CEL after). You can share this person’s email address when you sign up.
All events will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT / 7:30 p.m. ET. Zoom links and more information specific to each event will be sent during the week of each event.
This is a members-only series. If you have colleagues, friends, or associates who want to attend but are not members, encourage them to join CEL! They can sign up to become a member online or by calling NCTE customer service at 877-369-6283. To do so, they need to become an NCTE member and add English Leadership Quarterly to their account. Enrolling in that subscription is how one becomes a CEL member.
If you have questions regarding this series, please reach out to CEL Chair Chris Bronke.
