2024 NCTE Annual Convention, Boston, MA
November 21–24, 2024
Applications due: March 1, 2024
Final materials due: October 21, 2024
The L. Ramon Veal Research Seminar is an ELATE-sponsored invitation-only session at the NCTE Annual Convention created to support graduate students and teacher-researchers engaged in educational research. At NCTE, the Veal Seminar offers a professional space for supportive and directed discussion between experienced scholars in ELA teacher education and those entering the field.
The Seminar
For the Veal Research Seminar, participants are grouped into thematic roundtables comprised of 2-3 people. An experienced scholar familiar with the thematic topic leads the discussion, addressing participants’ questions while providing focused feedback on the submitted research. Prior to the seminar, participants receive electronic copies of their table’s papers and are responsible for reading each paper and considering the questions provided for review.
Application Process
Deadline 1: Those interested in participating in the Veal Research Seminar must submit applications by March 1, 2024. Submissions consist of the applicant’s contact information, title of submitted research, a 50-word abstract, and a 500-word description. Those accepted to the Veal Research Seminar will be notified in mid-March.
Deadline 2: Participants in the Veal Research Seminar will submit final materials by October 21, 2024, including a research paper and guiding questions. Note: While your research may be at any stage of development, papers submitted may be no more than 8 double-spaced pages (excluding references).
