Mentorship Opportunities at NCTE
NCTE offers several opportunities each year for educators of color, scholars of color, and/or educators of students of color.
Cultivating New Voices among Scholars of Color
Purpose: To bring together early career scholars of color into a two-year experience grounded in close guidance, relationship building, and support.
What is the timeline?
- New cohorts form in evenly numbered years (2026, 2028, etc.)
- Early January: application opens
- March 15: application deadline
- Late May: notification

Early Career Educator of Color
Purpose: To support early career teachers of color as they build accomplished teaching careers in literacy education.
What is the timeline?
- New cohorts form annually
- Early January: application opens

Professional Dyads and Culturally Relevant Teaching
Purpose: supports early childhood educators of color and educators who teach elementary children of color, children who are emerging bi/multilinguals, and children from low-income households in studying about culturally relevant pedagogies and generating, implementing, documenting, evaluating, assessing, and disseminating classroom practices and process reflections from work done in preK to fifth-grade classrooms.
What is the timeline?
- Applications open every odd-numbered year (2027, 2029, etc.)
- Early January: application opens
- April 15: application deadline
- June: notification
