The Indiana House is preparing for a quick start in January 2017 regarding K-16 education with as many as 70 bills that may be released. With changes in national leadership, and possibly education policy, educators will want to watch trends in Indiana. One bill may challenge extant U.S.Supreme Court ruling. For example, Indiana State Bill HB 1024 would “mandate traditional and public and charter schools to create a policy allowing a student to express religious beliefs at any school event…”. Would this include universities?
Also, the Higher Education Expenses HB 1012 would require public colleges and universities to provide every student with a summary of each semester’s funding expenses. The Indiana Commission on Higher Education offers a website for to estimate college costs: the College Cost Estimator. Indiana seeks to make transparent the costs of higher education, with clear, direct paths to college completion, careers, and livelong learning.
