Book Reviews in College English:
Guidelines for Reviewers, Publishers, and Authors

As a journal that draws broadly across the subdisciplines of English studies, College English takes as its goal to publish review essays that are relevant to a wide spectrum of scholarly interests. Review essays cover multiple related recent titles, locate them in disciplinary conversations, and evaluate their success in achieving their stated goals. Thus, review essays focus on trends in the field rather than on single titles.

Prospective Reviewers
College English publishes only commissioned review essays. Prior to drafting a review, prospective reviewers should query the editor at collegeenglisheditors@gmail.com.

Review inquiries should include the names of the proposed titles. If the proposing reviewer has any personal or professional connection to the authors of the suggested works, it should be noted. Inquiries should also describe the reviewer’s relevant expertise.

Authors are invited to have their publishers send copies of their work to the field office at the following address:

Review Guidelines
Commissioned reviews
• should be not more than 6,000 words.
• must be approved by the editor prior to publication.
• must conform to MLA Handbook (9th ed.) guidelines.
