How can stories build racial literacy?

Join us for a powerful exploration of the answer.

Monday October 14, 2019
1:00–3:00 PM

Penguin Random House Headquarters
Midtown Manhattan | New York City

We welcome you to an afternoon of learning with authors and activists Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi. They will tell us the story of how they deferred college admission for a year to collect first-person accounts of how racism plays out in this country every day–and often in unexpected ways.

In their book, Tell Me Who You Are, Guo and Vulchi reveal the lines that separate us based on race or other perceived differences and how telling our stories–and listening deeply to the stories of others–is the first and most crucial step we can take toward negating racial inequity in our culture. Featuring interviews with more than 150 Americans, accompanied by their photographs, this intimate toolkit also offers a deep examination of the seeds of racism and strategies for effecting change.

As Guo and Vulchi explore their book with us, they will also lead us through some of the instructional strategies they now coach teachers to use in their classrooms to foster racial literacy education.
