In all of the clamor for school improvement, little attention is paid to class size and teacher student ratio as factors affecting the learning of all students. English and language arts teachers’ class size and student load have been continuing concerns of NCTE through much of its history. Be it therefore
Resolution
Resolved, that the National Council of Teachers of English appoint a task force to revisit the issue of class size and student load: (1) revise and reactivate the 1991 NCTE pamphlet “Lost in the Crowd” and its accompanying Secondary Class Size Packet; (2) develop and publish packets on class size and student load for elementary and college levels; (3) present research to state boards of education, departments of education, and legislators; (4) provide implementation guidelines to affiliates; and
that NCTE recognize and support affiliates’ efforts to influence the reduction of class size and student load.
