NCTE and Carnegie Corporation of New York are partnering on a new initiative to bring the philanthropic foundation’s Great Immigrants, Great Americans comic series into classrooms nationwide.

Classroom teachers are invited to apply to join one of two teacher cohorts that will create lesson plans and resources based on comics about naturalized American citizens. Teachers will bring their own knowledge and experience to a collaborative effort with a tangible result.

Two cohorts of four members and one facilitator will work together to create a total of 16 resources for middle and secondary grades. These resources will integrate the Great Immigrants, Great Americans comics and be widely available on ReadWriteThink for the benefit of all.

The cohorts will convene soon after the application deadline and will conclude in late August. Two to four required meetings will take place virtually, with additional meetings taking place as needed. Other work will be completed asynchronously. Participants will receive a stipend of $1,500 for their work.
