Glenbard West's African American Read-In - National Council of Teachers of English

Welcome to the NCTE event calendar! Here, you can find a list of events, including webinars, workshops, and in-person conferences. These events provide opportunities for English language arts teachers to learn new strategies and techniques, network with colleagues, and stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in the field.

If you have an event that you would like to submit to be included on the NCTE event calendar, please fill out the event submission form. To be considered, events must align with the mission of NCTE and be of professional interest to English language arts teachers. We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events!

Glenbard West’s African American Read-In

February 13, 2024 @ 1:45 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

At our second annual Read-In, Glenbard West hopes to celebrate Black authors by asking students and staff to read excerpts of poems, books, speeches, etc. which have been written by Black creators and have been meaningful to the readers. We will also feature art and music by Black students, gift cards from local and Black-owned businesses for our lucky raffle winners, and plenty of food, including chocolate caramel cups from Ms. Jana’s Candy in Aurora. We’ll be joined by local author and Associate Professor of English Tony Bowers, who will share some thoughts on the power of reading and writing, as well as an excerpt from his book of short stories On The Nine. You can view the program for our event here.
