Build Your Stack® Committee
Charge
The Build Your Stack® Committee celebrates the importance of books and other media in the lives of teachers, students, and communities. The Committee works to grow and expand teacher expertise in text and book selection, increase the recognition of this expertise, and assist literacy educators to build their knowledge of books for instructional and professional growth purposes. The committee will:
- Amplify teacher voices as experts on text selection and book choice.
- Support teachers as they choose books that meet the needs of their students.
- Elevate the idea of Teacher as Reader, an important component of teacher agency.
- Create and curate content that furthers the practice of joyful reading among preK–12 literacy educators, students, and communities.
- Support the connection between NCTE, teachers, and books to further the recognition of preK–12 teacher expertise in the educational landscape by ensuring content meets NCTE’s vision and aligns with NCTE’s relevant position statements.
- Prepare sessions as allocated for the NCTE Annual Convention that offer high-quality, inclusive content related to books and literacy education. Build Your Stack sessions will align with the Convention’s goals and other assigned professional learning initiatives and are expected to evolve over time.
