NCTE Affiliate Website of Excellence Award

 

Award Details

Who Can Participate 
Any affiliate of NCTE that maintains a website. 

Frequency/Number of Awards 
Outstanding websites will be selected and recognized as Websites of Excellence at the Affiliate Breakfast at each year’s NCTE Annual Convention. Websites selected represent models for affiliate websites to emulate. 

Award Specifics 
Certificates will be presented to each winning affiliate. 

Award Criteria 
Affiliates nominate themselves for this award by submitting an Affiliate Website of Excellence Award submission form no later than June 30 in the year of the award. An NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliate (SCOA) representative will chair the judging.  

Submissions are judged based on the following criteria (updated in 2022). 

  • The website clearly states the affiliate’s vision and mission along with its affiliation to NCTE. 
  • The website incorporates purposeful use of graphics that artfully organize the space, guide the reader’s eye, and enhance the presentation of ideas and information. 
  • The affiliate designs their website layout through consistent typography for copy and headlines that meets professional standards and is easy for the audience to read. 
  • The website publishes relevant content appropriate to users’ needs.
  • The website properly cites the authors and affiliations for information, facts, images, and statistics. 
  • The website publishes well-written and organized content at a reading level suitable to the intended audience. 
  • The website provides up-to-date content with live links and information current with social, educational, and/or global events and initiatives. The website also indicates the latest update to the website. 
  • The affiliate aligns the style of the website with the organization’s brand (color, graphics) and applies that style consistently throughout the site.
  • The affiliate designs easy-to-navigate webpages. 
  • The affiliate designs a website that is accessible in different browsers and on mobile devices. 

Scoring Rubric (updated in 2022)

Deadlines 
The completed Affiliate Website of Excellence Award submission form is due no later than June 30 in the year of the award. The winning affiliate(s) will be notified in late summer so that they may have a representative present to receive the award at the NCTE Annual Convention Affiliate Breakfast. This representative is expected to purchase a breakfast ticket with Convention registration. 

Administration 
The Standing Committee on Affiliates will administer the award. The Committee will appoint a member to handle the judging, the award specifics, and notification to applicants. The committee will also provide annual feedback on ways to improve the program so that it runs smoothly. The NCTE Affiliate Office will handle the initial publicity and notification about the program to affiliates. 

Judging 
Each submission form and website will be independently evaluated.
