Council Historian Paul Thomas writes a letter to his students, particularly pertinent at this end-of- semester grading time. He explains “the ugly inevitable of having to assign each student a grade” when at the same time, with the hope he has helped his students learn the most important things, he is having to watch them move on. He writes:
