Refresh, Recharge, Renew: Summertime as Growth for Teachers

Summertime as Growth for TeachersThe following post was written by Shawna Coppola (@ShawnaCoppola) and Lisa Fink (@fink_girl), hosts of this Sunday’s #nctechat, which will explore the ways teachers use the summer to renew and grow in their professional learning.

We can’t help but laugh at the age-old perception that teachers have their their summers “off.” As most of us can attest, this is far from true! From working second jobs, to planning for the following school year or simply plowing through our professional “to be read” stacks, the majority of educators spend much of their summers engaged in work that far exceeds that which the general public typically imagines.

However, in order for us to be at our very best for our students and our colleagues when the new school year rolls around, it is important that we take time each summer to refresh, recharge, and renew ourselves, both personally and professionally. Please join us on Sunday, June 21 at 8 PM ET to explore ways to do this and share your own methods for “recharging” yourself each summer!

While we are happy to help facilitate an organic discussion during the chat, some questions we hope to explore that evening include:

  • What do you do to refresh/recharge/renew over the summer?
  • What kinds of things get in your way of recharging yourself over the summer?
  • What will you commit to doing for yourself (professionally and/or personally) over the next couple of months?
  • What are your hopes and dreams for the next school year?
