On a weekend in July, 45 leaders of NCTE affiliates joined NCTE Vice President Jocelyn Chadwick (after clicking the link, scroll down the page to her profile), NCTE Executive Director Emily Kirkpatrick, members of the NCTE Standing Committee on Affiliates, and three NCTE staff members including me for the Affiliate Leadership Meeting. Their goal? To share, learn, and think about their affiliates and NCTE. To work together to find ways to make their affiliates even better so they can serve more English language arts teachers.
Collaboration among the leaders was the engine that pushed the theme. Participants learned, talked, reflected and made plans for organizations replete with members actively learning together to provide their students with the best teaching. Toward educators who speak out to their schools and communities about best teaching and best learning.
