Celebrate Independent Bookstore Day!

On the last Saturday in April, Independent Bookstore Day is recognized! It brings together the celebration of classics, entrepreneurship, and the joy of browsing through aisles of books.

In an effort to support local bookstores across the country, NCTE has partnered with Bookshop to help promote the work of each of our guest authors and speakers featured in our professional learning opportunities. NCTE and indie bookstores receive a small commission from each sale made through our shop. If you aren’t buying at your local indie bookstore, we hope you’ll consider purchasing through NCTE’s page!

As we continue through National Poetry Month, it’s the perfect time to to visit the Bookshop list of the 2024 Notable Poetry Books and Verse Novels for Children created by NCTE’s Children’s Poetry Awards Committee. You can learn more about these titles and see previous lists on our website.

The NCTE Charlotte Huck Award® for Outstanding Fiction for Children promotes and recognizes excellence in the writing of fiction for children. This Bookshop list includes recipients of the award as well as Honor and Recommended titles.

The NCTE Orbis Pictus Award® for Outstanding Nonfiction for Children promotes and recognizes excellence in the writing of nonfiction for children. This list from Bookshop includes recipients as well as Honor and Recommended titles.

NCTE has been a partner of the Mathical Book Prize for many years. This prize recognizes outstanding fiction and nonfiction for youth ages 2–18 that demonstrates intersections between literature and mathematics. Another Mathical partner is the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Our organizations will be holding the Joint Conference for K–5/Elementary Literacy and Mathematics this June. Mathical Book Prize-winning authors and books will be featured throughout the conference. Visit this Bookshop list to find books that inspire children of all ages to see math in the world around them and get excited to learn more this summer!
